Warming Up To Spring: Makeup Edition

So long winter, you are no longer welcome in Florida! If you are reading this from another place where you are still getting LOTS of cold weather and snow, I’m sorry. Move to Florida and you too can be excited about ALL THINGS SPRING. You may even be already starting your spring cleaning and wardrobe updates. So, let’s not forget your shift to spring makeup. This is a great time of year to go through that makeup collection you have and shift some things around. I bet there are some things that need to be trashed as well. I’m giving you some simple ideas and products to do just that so let’s jump RIGHT into it.

But First, Makeup

I’m ready to be a tanner, glowy version of myself again. Within limits and SPF of course. Until I am, the best thing to get me there is Charlotte Tillbury Unisex Healthy Glow. This is a hydrating tint for ALL skin tones that will give you a summer glow without having to be in the sun or use bad spray tans. It gives everyone an immediate “Instagram Filter” look to them and is great for a quick 5-minute face if you don’t want to put on a foundation. This will carry you through summer to even out any awkward sunglass tans you may fall victim to as well.

NYX first base

I like to lose the weight when it comes to makeup (among other things) in spring. Heavy, silicone primers are GREAT when you need a look to last a long time or in dry, winter months. When warmer, and yes more humid weather hits, I feel like I just can’t take another layer on my face. Using NYX First Base primer spray is my go to. It goes on light, helps makeup last and because it’s not silicone based, it won’t make you break out.

Other things to think of are what color foundation you are using, we all tend to vary shades with the seasons. Look at the type too, you may want to switch to a lighter coverage or something that will stay better for humidity or whatever the climate is for spring where you live.

Glowing Skin is ALWAYS In

I’m ready to show you all the power of a great bronzer, blush, and highlight. I’m even more ready to show you them in ONE palette making them even easier to travel with. The Becca x Chrissy  Teigen Glow Palette is a go to, especially if you are new to the world of bronzing and highlighting. The great color payoff, great for a variety of skin tones and one palette makes it easy to organize and keep things all together. Pro tip on highlighting your skin, stick to upper cheekbones, your cupids bow and the middle of your nose. Going too crazy can make you look ridiculous, and personally, I’m over women walking around like they opened a glow-stick on their faces. Move over to more pink tones in your blush colors, and your bronzer color should never have a “dirty” look to it. Warmer tones will suit everyone best and make sure to BLEND BLEND BLEND. This is a common mistake with bronzer. I will find you, and I will blend your contour.

There is no such thing as too many lipsticks.

Those are words to live by. I can tell you all the reasons to buy them, but that is a separate blog post. Different colors, different types, and “just because I liked this color” are all reasons enough. Springtime is a great reason to get rid of the old colors you have at the bottom of your purse, or any color you don’t like the way it looks on you. Let’s get some pinks, peaches, and corals all a chance to shine for a bit! I mean SHINE!!! As a lover of the matte lip, I’m ready for a break. I need some gloss. Not the kind of gloss that makes you feel gross and sticky, just a nice great universal one that goes with all the lipsticks I am buying. Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Gloss is perfection. It leaves lips with just the right amount of shine and can pair with colors you probably already have as well. Other great options are grabbing some more sheer formulas if you want just the hint of color. Revlon Matte Balm is a happy medium for those who want staying power but the nice smooth feeling of a traditional lipstick.

All I Need is Mascara and Coffee.

Clean up that makeup case! Your mascara should be tossed every three months, so go out and get a new one. My favorites include Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara, (which is LESS THAN $4), and Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. Both give full lash perfection and full lashes are always going to be in style. Get a new brow pencil or pomade, heck go all out and get your brows shaped. I personally can’t trust someone with bad eyebrows, they say a lot about who you are. Make sure whatever products you add to your kit, you LOVE. Feel free to ask the salespeople at the makeup stores for help or contact a professional (LIKE ME! for a makeover and learn what products can work for you and how to use them.

You can see me talking about these products on River City Live. If you miss the segment it will be posted later that day as well. What are some of your favorite makeup products for spring? Leave them in the comments below.
