You have probably seen them all around town, have friends tell you in secret or possibly just googled it: Medical Spa aka MedSpa. There was a time when we as women, kept these “secrets” to looking better on the down low. We didn’t want others to know exactly what we were doing to stay so amazing looking. With 2018 in full swing, I made the decision to try this beauty trend that is becoming more the norm amongst women in my age bracket. I had heard my own stories (good and bad) about it. Not to mention the expenses associated with a trip to the MedSpa. After visiting Avanti Medical Spa, I am here to tell you my FIRST experience on getting fillers. Yes, I am giving you ALL the details, and even letting you stare at my face because that’s just how I do things.
My First MedSpa
When first meeting with Dr. Kalpana DePasquale, I immediately felt at ease. She presented herself as knowledgeable on what she was doing and answered questions thoroughly. Her background is amazing and yes, do your research on whom you’re going to for any cosmetic procedure. I had never been in a MedSpa and had NO idea what to expect, so I was pleasantly surprised. Together, we decided that my first filler would be done with Restylane and put in my Nasolabial Folds (the lines that go from your mouth to your nose). This type of filler lasts a year (give or take depending on your skin) and costs $649. Take into consideration the longevity of it, as well as, the INSTANT difference you get from Restylane as opposed to Botox or Dysport.
On Tuesdays we do Fillers
I arrived for my appointment and was greeted immediately, filled out a medical form and then brought back to meet with Chloe, Avanti Medical Spas’ esthetician. Chloe let me know she was going to go over a complimentary skin analysis done with VISIA. Pictures of your skin are then analyzed on different categories and, compared to other women your age. This technology also lets you see how well skincare routines are working each time you stop in, along with what goals you have for your skin.
We then walked over to the room where I would get my fillers. A topical numbing cream is put on and needs to stay there for 30 minutes. I don’t know about you all, but 30 minutes of some great music playing and wasting time on my phone, felt AMAZING. Once numb, Dr. DePasquale came in and reviewed the procedure and what I may feel. The injections began and I felt NOTHING. The only feeling was her using her hands and it was done in less than 5 minutes. She made sure several times that everything looked even and then handed me a mirror. To my shock, there was an immediate change in the best way possible. I was then given ice cubes to put on and off every couple of hours and sent home with instructions and some great samples of KalVera skincare.
Before and After
When I left, I didn’t feel anything other than a slight soreness, and a little swelling. True disclosure, at the end of the day I had a bruise on my right side not even the size of a dime. The team at Avanti did tell me that some people bruise and some don’t, just something to keep in mind if you are doing this for the first time. The bruise lasted about a week, and I was able to cover it with makeup. A few days later, Chloe called to check up on me (loved that follow-up). I love the way I look with them, they feel normal, and there’s a wonderful, subtle difference to my face.
I can’t say enough good things about doing this. It’s a better version of myself, and that’s what I wanted. These cosmetic procedures should ALWAYS be done by someone with the right background. Keep in mind when you are searching for your own doctor, to research them thoroughly and thoughtfully. Costs are a big factor for choosing to go ahead with these procedures and trust me, I get it. If you’re thinking about doing something like fillers or Botox to your face, I recommend going in for a consultation. A great doctor shouldn’t let you walk out feeling like you aren’t achieving what you want. Something that Dr. DePasquale and I discussed was, that beginning to do these simple fillers or Botox when you are starting to see those fines or wrinkles will ease the aging process. Was I happy with my appearance before the fillers? Yes. Do I love what I look like after getting them done? Absolutely. While I still feel that confidence is the most beautiful trait a woman can have, letting my outside show how I feel inside, feels pretty damn good as well.
