Fall fashion is upon us! And, in case the sudden drop from the 90’s to high 80’s wasn’t a clear sign to you, the appearance of Pumpkin Spice Lattes should! It’s time to bust out all your cute plaid button downs, scarves, and tall boots. Lucky for you, I have done all the extensive research on how to make this transition more reasonable for us Floridians.
I’m a recovering Northeast girl, and I have plenty of scarves, sweaters, and cute boots to spare—but what am I supposed to do now that I can’t wear most of that stuff here. And by the time I can it’s December or January at best? Well, I’m here to help when you want to incorporate some cute trends for fall, but, don’t want to sweat through your Spanx or have to explain why the UPS guy knows the name of your dog! The summer wardrobe is still current so the idea is to reuse those pieces and add what you may already have in your closet. Or, purchase staples that will last you years to come.
Here are a few samplings of easy outfits to take you into our version of fall fashion. Ladies, I didn’t include “Athleisure” because that knows no season. I’ll show you how I wore it for the summer vs. how to wear it for fall.
T-Shirt From Wherever You May Have Roamed This Summer
So, here I took a t-shirt and added a plaid shirt (that you probably already have in your closet) and these AMAZING leather look leggings by Spanx. YES, SPANX!! They are a classic piece that I use over and over in the fall and winter, easily dressed up or down and, wait for it … SUCK IT ALLLLLL IN! Play around with the plaid shirt on how you wear it, it’s fashion — don’t take it too seriously.
Just Keep Rompin’, Just Keep Rompin’
Did you go out and buy a romper (similar one to mine) and you’re like, now what? Here’s what. Add some heels, a great (faux) leather jacket and great accessories and this romper will take you long into the warm Florida fall, and even a mild winter.
White Jeans Past Labor Day?!
Yes, you can!! I wear white jeans all year round with the right top and accessories. There are no more rules on when to wear them. During the summer I add a pop of color and a brown clutch to keep my outfit light. Love the clutch? Use the discount code MOMS15 to score 15% off an Urban Southern item! For the fall, I add a great black top with nice detailing. Again a great pair of suede black booties and accessories can change an entire outfit. No more rules for white jeans, except don’t wear them around children and food … or me because, “I’ll never be the girl who can wear white without spilling on herself.”
Florida and Floral Go Together like Peas & Carrots
Get the right patterned floral top, and you can rule the world. Well okay, thats a far stretch but, you can wear it year round in the sunshine state! If you are unsure about trying a floral patterned top (as I was), I shopped off of Thredup and checked local thrift stores. It’s the best way to try out a trend without a big commitment price tag. When transitioning this piece to fall, I wanted to use the base color of the top (black) and add jeans that helped balance the colors. A great pair of suede heels, a vintage clutch and chunky bracelet, complete this great look, for a Moms Night Out.
The Best Pants are NO PANTS, so keep that favorite summer dress out!
I use to hate dresses. Now they are my favorite piece of clothing to throw on during the warm months (aka 10 out of 12 here in Northeast Florida). There are very few items of clothing that you can own that make you feel as good as you do in a great, flattering dress. So why put it away just because a change of the seasons? Stick to keeping dresses that have colors that can carry you through all the seasons, and add simple accessories, a great wardrobe staple denim jacket, and some fun riding boots or booties. This look is full of endless possiblities that will last you all year.
Take what you felt you looked amazing in, and add pieces to make it still look great on you year round. There are not many rules to fashion these days, except making sure you wear something that you love, and feels good. For Florida, add something that still keeps you cool during our warm Autumn days. And, don’t worry there will be a couple days come January you can wear some cute sweaters before spring.
