Explore St. Augustine: Fun Day Date Ideas

Let’s face it, sometimes you can’t find someone to watch your kid(s) on a Saturday night. So, how do you find time to squeeze in some one on one time with your significant other? My husband and I sometimes like day dates instead! This gives us the opportunity to explore St. Augustine, without the hassle of finding a babysitter on a night she may rather hang out with friends. Below are some ideas for local spots to check out for a fun DAY date with your significant other! And, yes, sometimes we even let the little one tag along!

Lunch and Coffee followed by a Nice Beach Drive

day date

A drive on the beach makes any day better!

Check out Taco Shop for a UFO, then go straight to Kookaburra for a refreshing iced specialty espresso drink. Once you’re full, pull into one of the many beach driving ramps (A Street is SO CLOSE to Taco Shop and Kook!) and take a nice drive on the beach. Some ramps are labeled as 4×4 only, so keep your eyes peeled. You don’t want to ruin your day date stuck in the sand.

Stand Up Paddle Board at Salt Run

My husband and I bought our SUPs last year from FL local and absolutely love them! But, if you’re not ready to take that plunge yet, Anastasia State Park is home to Anastasia Watersports, where you can rent and walk straight from their hut into the waters of Salt Run (SUPER calm body of water between Anastasia and Conch Islands). It’s a perfect place for beginners, we even took our 5-year-old. Make sure to check timing for high and low tide.

Explore Ravine Gardens State Park

Over in Palatka, this beautiful state park is full of different trails, suspension bridges, flowers, ponds, and wildlife. It’s great for easy hikes and some relaxing outdoor time.

Rent a Harley or Slingshot and Cruise Around Local Scenic Roadways

day date

If you or your husband are two-wheel inclined, rent a Harley for a day. It’s a fun way to get out in the fresh air, listen to some tunes, and just enjoy the scenery. State Road 13 runs along the St Johns River and is a beautiful ride! Alternatively, you could get a Polaris slingshot: 2 seats, 3 wheels, and a bit more protection around you.

Breakfast followed by a nice walk around Historic StA

Breakfast on a weekend morning is one of our favorite things to do. HERE are some suggestions on our top choices in town.  Are you seeing a theme here of eat and then do? Once you have sufficiently stuffed yourself, drive downtown and park.  Maybe take the trolley for some fun history or walk on your own. Make sure to check out St George, Aviles, and Hyppolita, some of our favorite local streets.

Flagler Beachfront Winery and Rocky’s Pizzeria

If you’re willing to go a bit further, take the scenic drive down A1A and check out Flagler Beach. It’s my favorite sleepy beach town! Rocky’s Pizzeria and Restaurant has THE most delicious authentic NY/NJ pizza. Their menu includes HUGE slices, 2 for $5, with a drink. Believe me, you won’t leave hungry! Once you’ve filled your belly with cheesy goodness, head up the road to the Flagler Beachfront Winery for a wine slushy. Sit out on the front patio, overlooking A1A, people/car watching and the BEACH across the way! A day date can’t get much better than that!
