Summertime . . . you either love it or dread it when you have kids. And, it’s not always easy finding things to do to keep the kids busy. Here’s a list of the top five things to do in St. Augustine during the month of June.
June 22, 9 am-11 am
My kids love the St. Augustine Pier Splash Pad, but they enjoy it more with friends. Grab the kids’ sunscreen and water toys for FREE fun, while meeting local moms. The newly remodeled splash park has extra water activities, the playground and pavilions are covered, and there’s easy access to the beach. You can even reserve picnics tables for a party. As long as the temperature is above 70 degrees, the splash pad is open!
June thru September
This free, kid friendly event takes place every Wednesday at the St. Augustine Pier. Each week offers a new band and a local restaurant serving yummy meals for purchase. The band is set up in the Pavilion and general seating is on the volleyball courts. To have extra room for the kids to play and run around, I would recommend sitting further back on the volleyball courts. Bring your lawn chairs, your own food (you don’t have to purchase the restaurant food) and you are allowed to enjoy adult beverages during the event. It’s an enjoyable night for everyone from 6pm-9pm every Wednesday.
During the summer months in St. Augustine there are not a lot of activities to do indoors and sometimes you just don’t feel like going to the beach. The St. Johns County Libraries offer activities from babies to teenagers. My favorite was taking the kids to crafts and story time. This summer my kids are old enough to participate in the Youth Summer Reading Program. Help your kids avoid the summer slide at your local library with tons of FREE events all summer like handwriting class, creative writing, story time, book clubs, Lego club and so much more. Check out our calendar for upcoming library fun.
Wednesdays, 8:30 pm-10:30 pm
Free summer movies by the bay is moving to the St. Augustine Colonial Quarter. What’s better than free kid movies in downtown St. Augustine? A free train ride to the free movie. That’s right, park at the parking garage (you do have to pay to park) and hop on the red train to the Colonial Quarter for free kid-friendly movies. It’s recommended to bring lawn chairs and blankets, the movies start at 8:30 pm. Bring your own food and beverages to enjoy during the movie. Make it a fun weekly playdate with friends.
Mom and Dad need a little summer fun too! The St. Augustine Amphitheater is a great place to see live music with easy parking and not a bad seat in the place. Most concerts are priced below $50.00 a ticket! Bands playing soon include Reel Big Fish, Slightly Stoopid, Paul Simon, John Mellencamp and many more. Find a concert and go because parents need a night to recharge their batteries for the long summer.
