Bye Bye Birdie {All Ages}

July 28-29: Originally titled Let’s Go Steady, Bye Bye Birdie is set in 1958. The story was inspired by the phenomenon of popular singer Elvis Presley and his draft notice into the Army in 1957. The rock star character’s name, “Conrad Birdie,”  is word play on the name of Conway Twitty. Twitty is best remembered today for his long career as a country music star, but in the late 1950s, he was one of Presley’s rock ‘n’ roll rivals. This musical features local middle and high school students in the Summer Musical Theatre Camp, produced by Curtis Powell, and directed by Joe Kemper. Show times are 7:30 p.m. July 28-29 in Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Granada St., downtown St. Augustine. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students. Tickets are available at the door one hour prior to each performance.
