May 4th is the official day to celebrate the Star Wars saga. Why this day you ask? Say “May the 4th Be With You” out loud and you’ll hear the pun. Here are a few fun ways you can celebrate the ‘May the 4th’ with your family.
Star Wars Snacks
Pinterest is filled with fun Star Wars themed snack and lunch ideas for your kiddos. Here’s a great compilation of 14 different snack foods that are pretty easy to make. I love the Stormtrooper marshmallows!
Movie Marathon for May the 4th
There are EIGHT movies plus two series of cartoons that are all Star Wars related. The latest movie, Rogue One, is more appropriate for older kids, but the Rebel series cartoons are great for smaller children. Whatever suits your family best, grab some popcorn, sit back and enjoy the Star Wars legacy.
Make Lightsabers and Duel
You can easily make lightsabers from pool noodles. Head to the Dollar Tree for a few pool noodles, black electrical tape and silver duct tape. Cut the pool noodle in half and let your kids decorate the handles to make their “lightsaber”. You can use Sharpie markers to add fun buttons and details or use Star Wars stickers to add even more fun. Not only are these cheap to make, but they also won’t hurt when the kids play fight since they’re made of foam.
Light Up the Night
What better way to celebrate than with glow sticks! The Dollar Tree and Walmart carry glow items for fairly cheap. Play some Star Wars music and help your kids use their imagination to create a picture or story with their glowing toys.
Act it Out
If you have a Star Wars obsessed kid, I am sure they already have a collection of toys and costumes to choose from. Encourage your child’s imagination and ask them to dress up and act out part of the movie for you. You may be surprised with what they create!
Head to Hollywood Studios
If you really want to celebrate in style, plan to travel to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. They have a ton of Star Wars attractions and characters including the opportunity to meet Chewbacca, Kylo Ren and BB8. You can trade with a real life Jawa, build a lightsaber, watch the march of the First Order and even see infamous characters like Darth Maul and Boba Fett in the hourly stage show. Our favorites are Jedi Training and the ‘Spectacular in the Stars’ fireworks set to Star Wars music.
Regardless of how you choose to celebrate, May the 4th Be With You!
